St Ives in the summer months can be a nightmare for traffic and parking. We recommend you leave your car at the park and ride in St Erth, take a fifteen minute, scenic, old fashioned train ride on this beautiful stretch of coastline to St Ives and walk a couple of minutes down to the Beach and Café.
Nearest Car Park: St Ives Railway Station is a two minute walk (very busy from June – September). If required, there is a route down to the beach that does not involve any stairs, head behind the platform itself to find the path.
Trenwith Car Park: A much larger car park situated at the top of town, around a 15-20 minute walk down the beach, this car park is still tremendously busy in the summer months.
The Sloop Car park – a 12 minute walk: Situated behind the oldest pub in St Ives, The Sloop Inn (built in 1312) you will find a small car park. This walk takes you on a tour of the town, either follow the coast the whole way by taking the harbour front route or alternatively walk through Fore Street for a spot of pre-dinner shopping. Follow Wharf Road along the harbour front, and if you have time pop into our sister restaurant Porthminster Kitchen for a pre-dinner cocktail. From St Ives harbour front, head towards the lifeboat house, to Lambeth Walk and through the Warren. Porthminster Beach emerges on the other side and Porthminster Café is the white building on the far side of the beach.
The Island Car park – a 19 minute walk: Starting at the Island car park walk along the coast past our sister restaurant Porthgwidden Beach Cafe, following the coast across to the St Ives Museum. Continue along this road until you reach Smeaton’s Pier, follow the road along the harbour front, head towards the lifeboat house, to Lambeth Walk and through the Warren. Porthminster Beach emerges on the other side and Porthminster Café is the white building on the far side of the beach.
